From the Dark Side--Windows 11 Gets Its September Patch; the Movable Taskbar Is Still in the Insider Builds

Microsoft shipped its September Patch Tuesday yesterday: KB5124008, builds 26200.9445 and 26100.9445 for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2, is security fixes, expanded Secure Boot certificate rollout, a fix for Teams and Outlook crashing on ARM PCs, and a Morocco time-zone change. No known issues, Microsoft says, which is itself news.

The features everyone is writing about, a taskbar you can move to the top of the screen and a Start menu you can shrink, are not in that package; per Windows Latest they are arriving through the gradual-rollout preview updates, and the Insider builds posted the same day are where the rest of it lives. Microsoft's own IT Pro roundup for August is mostly about servicing and security hardening. Meanwhile Tom's Guide says Windows 12 has a date, again.

For the record, the Mac has let you put the Dock on any edge since 2001. [Macs Only!]
